The suspect was identified as James Jordan (age 66). Jordan turned himself in at the Bakersfield Police Department at about 3:45 p.m. After being interviewed, Jordan was arrested for homicide. Incident: Officials at Kern Valley State Prison (KVSP) are investigating the attack of an inmate that occurred three months ago as a homicide. On March 18 just after 8:30 p.m., inmate Erik Morales allegedly attacked inmate Ryan Galindo while in their assigned cell. Officers responded to the cell and gave orders for Morales to stop. Morales complied without the use of force. Galindo suffered severe head trauma as a result of the attack and was immediately taken to the prison’s Triage and Treatment area and then transported to an outside hospital for a higher level of care. He remained in a local hospital until transported to a long-term care facility. On Tuesday, June 18 at 9:33 a.m., Galindo was pronounced dead by a physician at the long-term care facility.

When CHP officers arrived, they located the vehicle which appeared to have veered off of the highway onto the righthand shoulder of northbound Interstate 5, colliding with a light pole, traveling through the east fence line and coming to rest in a field northeast of Interstate 5. The officers contacted the adult male driver who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The subject claimed that he had a firearm, which caused the officers to back away from their approach. The subject exited the vehicle and began to approach the officers. The subject refused to comply with the officer’s commands and had a hand concealed as he continued to approach the officers. An officer-involved shooting ensued. Medical aid was administered by the officers and responding medical personnel, but the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.

Incident: On January 28, 2019, at approximately 01:00 a.m., Deputies assigned to the Lamont Substation and Metro Patrol were dispatched to the 10400 block of Elmco Avenue in Lamont regarding gunshots being heard in the area. Deputies arrived on scene and located a vehicle that had collided with a fence and a water line in the 10400 block of Velma Avenue. The driver of the vehicle appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Medical aid responded and attempted to perform life saving measures; however, the subject succumbed to the injuries. A passenger of the vehicle also appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment. The passenger is currently being treated at the hospital for the injuries. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and assumed the investigation. During the investigation it was determined the initial shooting occurred in the 10400 block of Elmco Avenue.
