Incident: On September 23, 2022 at approximately 1:48AM Bakersfield Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of suspicious circumstances at a residence in the 300 block of Real Road. Upon arrival officers located evidence of foul play and believed a serious violent crime had taken place at the residence. Several adults were detained at the residence during the initial investigation. Bakersfield Police Department Robbery/Homicide detectives responded and assumed the investigation.
Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Juan Toscano (age 34) for murder. Toscano admitted to detectives that he had shot and killed a subject at the residence during an illegal narcotics related transaction. The body of the victim was removed from the residence by other suspects, who had not been identified at that time. Toscano was transported and booked into the Kern County jail for murder. Additional follow-up led to the arrests of Javier Ontiveros (age 25), Johnny Vega (age 29) and Edrich Esquer-Rubio (age 21) on October 5, 2022. Vega and Ontiveros were taken into custody without incident. Ontiveros later attempted to escape from police custody while being interviewed but was quickly apprehended. Vega was booked into the Kern County jail for robbery, kidnapping and murder. Ontiveros was booked into the Kern County jail for robbery, kidnapping, resisting arrest, murder and an additional felony arrest warrant.
On October 5, 2022, at approximately 5:00PM, Bakersfield Police Department officers located Esquer-Rubio at a residence in the 2800 block of Skyline Boulevard. As officers attempted to take him into custody, Esquer-Rubio entered a vehicle, rammed multiple police vehicles and led officers on a lengthy vehicle pursuit. Esquer-Rubio struck several additional vehicles during the pursuit while trying to evade officers before he was eventually taken into custody. No injuries were sustained in any of the traffic collisions. Esquer-Rubio was arrested for felony evading, resisting arrest, robbery, kidnapping, murder and an additional felony arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into the Kern County jail.
On October 6, 2022 Bakersfield Police Department Detectives, Fort Mohave Sheriff deputies and Crime Scene Unit personnel located the body of an adult male in the desert outside of Fort Mohave, Arizona. Kern County Sheriff's Investigators say she honked but the car wouldn't move... so the 24-year-old got out and reportedly yelled at them to move and slammed her hands on the hood.
The court documents say a woman stepped out of that car both she and the driver fired shots at Bowdey -- hitting her multiple times.
Deputies say as the Chrysler then drove away.. the passenger window rolled down and two more rounds were fired.
The court documents say Bowdey was still alive when deputies arrived.. and was able to describe the suspects' car and driver.
She died at the hospital later that night.
20-year-old Joseph Barker and 25-year-old Erica Gonzalez were arrested that night.. charged with first-degree murder.

One officer discharged his firearm. The involved officer was equipped with a body-worn camera device. As the investigation proceeds the footage will be made available to the public. The involved officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is being conducted. The officer involved in the critical incident is identified as Officer B. Peterson. Officer Peterson has been an officer with the department for three years.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male in the west parking lot suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers and medical aide personnel attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the victim and an additional adult male, later identified as Andrew Ceballos (age 23), were involved in a verbal conflict that escalated into a physical fight. During the fight, Ceballos stabbed the victim multiple times, causing his death. Ceballos was contacted at a residence in southwest Bakersfield at about 6 p.m. and was detained without incident.
Ceballos was later arrested for murder and booked into the Kern County jail. There are no outstanding suspects, but the investigation is ongoing.

Incident: On 3/4/2022, at about 2055 hours, officers from the Ridgecrest Police Department were dispatched to the 1500 block of S. Porter St. regarding a report of a physical altercation with a gunshot being heard. Officers arrived on scene and observed a dark colored sedan fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. Officer Cushman pursued the vehicle and after a short pursuit, was able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver was identified as Erwin Moore Jr. A search of Moore’s vehicle led to the discovery of evidence that directly linked him to this homicide. During the traffic stop, other officers continued to the scene and found a male subject lying in the street with a gunshot wound. The victim showed no signs of life and was pronounced deceased on scene. During the investigation, officers contacted Brian Coykendall at the scene. Evidence was located that directly connected Coykendall to the homicide as well. Detectives from the Ridgecrest Police Department responded to assist in this investigation. The detectives and patrol officers located evidence and developed information that linked both Moore and Coykendall to the homicide. Due to the circumstances of the homicide, both subjects were placed under arrest for PC 187(A) – Murder: First Degree. Incident: On February 5, 2022, at about 10:57 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2300 block
of White Lane for a victim of a shooting. Officers arrived to find an adult male suffering
from a gunshot wound resulting in major injury. The victim was transported to a local
area hospital by emergency medical personnel, where he is listed in critical condition.
A second adult male arrived at a local area hospital suffering from a minor gunshot
wound. He was treated for his injury by hospital personnel and later discharged.
Prior to the shooting, a large crowd had gathered in the parking lot of the shopping
center for an apparent car rally. During the course of the gathering, a physical fight
broke out between several subjects. As this fight was occurring, several witnesses
observed an adult Hispanic male and an adult Black male fire multiple shots.
On February 7th, 2022, the adult male victim who had previously been transported with
major injury to an area hospital succumbed to his injury and was declared deceased.
